Music

The Elvis Costello Home Page--Mark Schnitzius has put together one of the finest fan pages on the Web for one of the most creative and exciting singer/songwriters of the late twentieth century. . .hell, in the history of the UNIVERSE. Elvis truly is King. If you're a fan of Costello's work, I highly recommend joining the Elvis Costello mailing list, a fun and intelligent discussion listserv of the man, his music, and whatever the hell else pops into our brains.

LuckyTown: The Bruce Springsteen Mailing List--Another great fan listserv and the place to start in searching for Springsteen resources on the Web.

The Illustrated Elton John Discography--A tremendous resource on Elton John's music over the past thirty years, with links to other sites and a comprehensive discography. He's more than just writing songs for dead blondes, folks.

The Lester Bangs Homepage-- Perhaps the greatest rock critic of all time, and definitely an American original. I discovered Bangs last summer, and discovered that as a writer I shared some stylistic impulses with him. Since reading Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung, a collection of his writings, my style has often inadvertently imitated his. So if I read like a shitty ripoff of Bangs, don't shoot me. This site collects some writings not found in his book and is just loads of fun to browse through.

The Art of the Mixed Tape--Truly, there is an art to it, and this site celebrates that art. Read track lists from great mix tapes and contribute your own faves. Cool stuff.

Movies

The Internet Movie Database--More fun to play with than a dog with no legs.

Ain't It Cool News--Harry Knowles has been dishing his particular brand of movie gossip on the Web for over two years, and I'm proud to say that I've been in on the ground floor. I don't know Harry personally (wish I did, actually), but he seems like a really cool guy with a truly passionate love for film. AND his scoops are always red-hot and lots of fun. Easily the top movie gossip site on the Web.

Corona's Coming Attractions--Patrick Sauriol has matched Harry move-for-move in the pursuit of the top movie gossip scoops. This is another awesome site, with tremendous organization that makes finding exactly the film you're looking for ridiculously easy. Don't miss the "Director's Cut" section, Sauriol's column on the latest movie dirt.

Dark Horizons--The final stop on my daily quest for the latest movie gossip. Garth Franklin got started a bit later than his online counterparts, but his news is just as juicy, and he's also very good about tracking down AVI files of hot movie trailers as well as photos from upcoming films.

The Force.Net--The top of the tops of "Star Wars" websites, it's been recognized by LucasFilm and hailed by millions of eager SW fans. A great prequel gossip section, fan-produced CGI films offering prequel teasers, and so much SW content you can't even describe it all. I love "Star Wars" and if you do too, then you'll adore this site.

Images: A Journal on Film and Popular Culture--A slick and insightful film fanzine with some great writing. Highly recommended.

Comics

Mania--An insane comics/animation/toys webzine that offers daily comics and entertainment news in its "Daily Buzz" section. There's also the occassional great article or interview with a comics pro. Their recent discussion with James Robinson was very illuminating.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!--Van Plexico is the webmaster extraordinaire for this awesome AVENGERS fan page (the classic Marvel comic, not the British TV show). He's also the moderator of the Avengers mailing list, of which current AVENGERS writer Kurt Busiek is a member and frequent contributor. It's another great discussion list to sign up with, if you have any interest in the AVENGERS.

The Jack Kirby Collector--Homepage for a fanzine dedicated to perhaps the most influential, important, kick-ass awesome comic book creator of all time, Jack "The King" Kirby. He's responsible for creating some of the all-time greatest superheroes at Marvel Comics, the New Gods for DC, and Captain America back in the 1940's. Some incredible artwork available for download; great wallpaper fodder.

The Marvel Comics Hostess Fruit Pies Homepage--The Smith bros. have toiled at collecting classic Hostess Fruit Pie ads from old Marvel comics books, nonsensical one-page stories featuring the great heroes of the Marvel Universe defeating deadly villains and thwarting dastardly crimes with tasty Hostess Fruit Pies. These ads are hilarious!

Friends of Mine (In No Particular Order)

The Woefully Forlorn Web Page--The official Karl Nack website, sponsored and composed by the Man himself. Ladies, I'm tellin' ya true: if you want to get your hands on a great man, snap up this fine hunk. He's the nicest guy in the world, funny, cute. . .he just needs a woman's touch to dull some of the rough edges. Act FAST.

NackInTouch--An unofficial Nack fan site by Eric Abando, it's the place to go for the latest news on Nack's life and times. Updated daily.

eric abando--Moderator of NackInTouch, true web artisan and ultimate phrisbee phanatic, he's done some really great work on his home page. He's also obsessed with "Dawson's Creek," just like the rest of us fools.

Winter--Steve Chamraz's home page, Marist High School Speech Team Alumni Association's 1997 Man of the Year and general bon vivant. You can link to the Cyberspeech network from here, too.

Kristin Kubasiak's Home- Page--Formerly a resident of the Foster-Walker Complex here on campus, Kristin has recently returned from the shores of Italy to an unsuspecting Northwestern community. We're all glad to see her back. Be sure to check out her e.e. cummings poetry site--it's really cool.

Dave's Home Page--Another fine, FINE catch, ladies. Dave's a blonde-haired, blue-eyed dreamboat of a guy who enjoys Green Day, schoolwork, and hanging out with friends. Yep, that's him standing next to the big obelisk on the home page. Hot stuff, eh?

KDC's Land O' Fun--Not much here yet, but with the amount of crap Karl-Dieter Crisman does on this campus in a given day, it's no surprise that his homepage needs some work. Still, we have high hopes for Karl's web presence. A math and music genius, a true Christian, and most of all a man for whom laughing too hard means not breathing and cheating death.

Goofy Foot--Crispin Cruz's homepage, the biggest prick in the Tri-State area. Suck him.
