Conan: Death Covered in Gold #1

Despite the worst cover I've ever seen from John Buscema, that had nothing to do with the issue, the interior art (he inked himself) is staggering, top notch, beautiful, subtle, luscious. It brought a tear to my eye. John Buscema is probably the greatest living comic book artist and it is a crime that the man doesn't work more. John Buscema is probably the best artist who ever drew Conan (ever better than Frazetta) and it's a crime that this is only a three part series. But I plan on savoring each and every issue!

Roy Thomas is on the money too. Nobody writes Conan like Roy, not even Robert E Howard. No one has written Conan longer or written MORE Conan tan Roy. He knows the character and the milieu inside and out. His story is smooth as glass and flows naturally. It doesn't get any better than this.

The two together on Conan, it's like one of those inexplicable rare wonderful perfect mixtures of alchemical magic. It's like peanut butter and jelly, ham and cheese, pork and beans, rock and roll, bread and butter...they fit like a glove. Reading this, you are instantly transported away from this world into Conan's ypou can smell the scents of the sweaty taverners and hear the raucus laughter of the wenches. This is comic book reading at its finest! I pray that no one will miss out on this wonderful comic because of the terrible cover or the lack of promotion. This is as good as it gets.
