For the past eight years, Kevin Arnold (no relation to the squishy pre-teen
on The Wonder Years) and Jordan Kurland (no relation to...well, to
anyone, except his relatives) have run the Noise Pop music festival in San
Francisco as a forum for drawing attention to underappreciated bands. Eight
years later, the Frisco fest is still going strong, and they've launched a
second fest in Chicago, along with Tom Windish and David T. Viecelli of the
Billions Corporation.
We ain't never had no "indie music festival" in our neighborhood. No, sir.
So Pop-Culture-Corn sent two of its intrepid music correspondents, Matt
Springer and Dan Wiencek, deep into this heart of indie brightness to listen
to as much tuneage as they could stomach. Five nights of music and eighteen
acts later, they staggered forth from the haze to chronicle what they saw,
then to probably sleep a lot.
What they saw amounted to tons of great music, some established acts and
others that were new revelations. And in the bunch, not a bad time to be
found.
If you dare--really, we mean it: if you DARE--venture forth with us into
the madness, the insanity, the crazy stuff that was...Noise Pop Chicago
2000.
