Pop-Culture-Corn HOME Cruel Summer

July 27, 1999

Boy, was I ever psyched to hear the new LL Cool J single from the Deep Blue Sea soundtrack, "Deepest Bluest."

You read that right: "Deepest Bluest." The refrain? "Deepest, bluest/My head is like a shark's fin." Apparently the J-man thinks he can horn in on some of Will Smith's hot success by whipping out a rap track patterned after a big summer movie.

Too bad the movie and the song both suck. See, that's the tricky part: anyone can make a song based on a movie, but you have to make them both GOOD. Then people will listen. Even if the movies suck, sometimes the songs are still great. They can't both suck. Otherwise, what's the point?

Oh yeah, to make money. I forgot.
